This week’s challenge: PROBLEM SOLVING!

Final Product
Draft

Hey everyone! Hope you had a great weekend!

As the title says, this week’s challenge was PROBLEM SOLVING. I decided to use the One Step at a Time strategy. I chose this one because it seemed to me the most effective and organized. It’s also a visual chart so because I am a visual learner this will help me out.

IMPORTANT: always remember the acrostic L.A.M.E.

Learner- What kind of learner am I? I’m a visual learner so anything that can be seen visually, like a chart, graph, drawing or planner will help me.

Action- What did I decide to do? I read all the strategies under problem solving and found One Step at a Time. I believe this one will help.

Materials- I chose the One Step at a Time for my PSC 121 and ETS 107 courses.

Evaluation- The evaluation process is still in progress but I find that this will be most helpful because I can see the consequences if I don’t do what I’m supposed to do.

*I will be using this a lot in order to explain the strategies I’ve chosen to explain.

NOW… How did I do this strategy?

This strategy is a chart with 4 columns:

Column 1 is: Problem

Column 2 is: Consequences

Column 3 is: Possible to Do’s

Column 4 is: Will Do

On column 1 you will write down one problem you are facing in one course that you would like to change. For example, my problem in PSC 121 is that I am not reading on time.

Then, in column 2 you will write 2 possible consequences you will face because of that problem. The consequences I will face if I don’t read on time will be: I will not understand what my professor is talking about in the lecture and I will receive a low grade on the Wednesday quizzes.

In column 3 you will write down 3 possible ways you can solve the problem. My possible to do’s are: read right before class, read and highlight the night before, or read, highlight, and take notes 2-3 days before the class.

In column 4 you write down, out of the 3 ways you can solve the problem, only one you will use. So, I chose: read, highlight, and take notes 2-3 days before the class.

AND YOU ARE DONE! :D

It’s simple, quick, and easy to make. I love seeing the consequences because that motivates me to solve the problem and to make sure to never have the consequences happen again.

Hope you find this strategy effective!

Take care and have a great week,

Gil

  1. Hey girl,
I really loved the colors and the organization. You really put alot of time into this blog this week. I think the lame thing was great and it made me want to read with all the colors and how you put this into your text. I really loved One Step at A Time. I think this would help me as well and charts to keep me focused on one class and how important the differnt things are. Also, when you highlighted in your book it really does help because I do this as well to keep me focused. Great Job

  2. Gil,
Great post; I love the colors! It seems like you're really aware of what you need to accomplish and what's preventing you from doing your work! While I'm not sure seeing the consequences would help me with completing my work, I'm glad that it was so helpful to you!
