Exam Prep didn't help but Paper Prep Did!!!!

Hey everyone Karima is back this week,

WOW! Is the first word that comes out of my mouth when I think about this week. This week was every busy again. I have to say that I really didn't understand the tech assignment this weekend and I didn't know what to do. So I kind of got a little nervous, but I thought and said to myself, "hey maybe by not knowing what to do, my peers can learn from this." So on Friday I went to my TA meeting and yes, I sure did have plenty of questions and I took notes because I wanted to succeed this week. And now I am here telling you what I did and what went wrong, if it did. Well I hope I did everything right and also helping you all to see how I learned.

Remember The Quote for a lifetime......
" If you continue to do what you have always done, then you will continue to get what you have always gotten. " - Dr. Blumin is a wise woman
In conclusion, Please just try to change I promise it won't hurt and try new strategies.

Also L.a.M.e is very important...

L earner- Find out the kind of learner you are always. I am a visual learner mixed with other ways to learn, so I am well rounded.
Action- Take all the actions in order to learn the best way.
Materials- Use all the materials you need to learn and all the things around you to help you learn better.
Evaluation- Now see how you learned and keep using these strategies.

$ STUDY BY TOPIC, NOT BY SOURCE $

Since I am in a situation that I only have classes that have papers in, then I am not going to do test prep. I will be showing you how I get ready for papers. Yay sounds like so much fun right lol. Yeah!!!!!!!
In stead of the 20 min test prep, I did 20 min paper prep. this is the same thing but with a paper for one of my steps to finishing my paper.
Notes for AAS 207

*This is my study space with all my books and my notes for WRT 105. I am planning for my " Hot Spot" paper and I am using the paper prep questions instead of the test prep to stay organized and to get my thinking about the topics of my paper. Also, this paper is due on Nov 7 th, so I am at the beginning stages. I am using the topic outline as well to help me focus on what happens in class and what I can use in my paper as well. Notes in and out of class with  readings and class discussions are helping me form ideas and chose my claim.
This week I anticipated essay questions. I used my AAS 207 and WRT 105 syllabuses to receive the information that I need to get from my papers. Since all the information wasn't on the syllabuses, then I looked on black board and printed the guidelines to each assignment and read carefully to see the main topic. In both of my classes I took notes and I used the 20 min test prep strategies, plug in, and jeopardy notes to get all the information I needed each day of class. This was another step from anticipating essay questions; professor's questions. In the following photos you will see the professor's question's as well as my questions. In class on Friday we had a discussion on interracial dating and my professor had a lot of question's for our class. So I took advantage and took notes. I also just look at my notes at the end of class every time I have a chance to. Now in WRT 105 I am into the discussions more and I began to take notes about the discussion. By taking notes about the discussions, now I can bring this into my paper. This goes for AAS 207 as well.

Syllabuses AAS 207 and WRT 105:

Professor's Questions:
My Questions:
I chose these strategies because I felt as if I understood the text like my professor said, but I wasn't understanding how to use it with my opinion and from the text in my papers. I chose these strategies because I wanted to understand how to develop a paper with all details and bring outside information in my papers. I wanted to understand the meaning of all my classes and by reviewing my notes over again after each class then I was able to understand and now I can use it in my papers.
Topic Outline:

This week I learned a lot and hope you did as well.

  1. hmm! I did different ways to anticipate test questions as well and I did not think of many of the things you did! I know that after you record the questions down from your teacher that they ask in class it is important to answer them asap, so I see your 20 minute test prep. But another way, thats just the opposite, is jeopardy! Instead of writing the questions they ask in class, you can write the answers they give, then go back and create your own questions, or even take your old exams and use that to create your questions based on the answers/notes you got in class. You really made me open up my mind with your blog! Thats awesome! Thank you so much and great job on this!!

  2. Hey Karima :)

Let me tell you that I felt the same way with the homework for last week. I didn't fully understand what had to be done but I tried my best to follow the instructions and I think I got it.

Again I love when you use some of Blumin's quotes. I have to admit I'm following your example and used one of her quotes which fit perfectly for what I was talking about in my blog.

I'm glad you were able to find that the exam prep didn't work so you took action and found one that did. I have a paper due for my political science class so I think I'm going to follow your directions and what you did to see if it works for me as well.

    Very good job !

  3. Hi Karmia,

Good use of our TA :) It's really great that you met with her with questions. Also, it's awesome that you used paper prep instead of exam prep! You saw something didn't work and you made a change, which is exactly what Blumin said students should do last week! It seems like you got a lot of it! I also love your use of pictures.
