Ranking Priorities- Finals addition!

Hey everyone! I hope everyone is surviving the last week of classes! I know this week and next can be VERY stressful, so I ranked priorities and then created a schedule for today to help me get everything accomplished! I’ve done ranking priorities twice before and that shows how much I value it! As a visual leaner, I LOVE creating lists and being able to visually see what needs to be accomplished. The first step of ranking priorities, is writing down everything that needs to be completed. Then, you put them in order of importance (either by date or by project size/length it will take you). My list is ranked by how big of a task it is. For example, even though I have homework due before my psych test, studying for psych takes much more time and effort, so I need to start planning and studying before starting the homework.  A means that it is a crucial task; B means that it is an important task, but doesn’t need to be accomplished right away; C means that it is an optional task.

A 1 Finish Psych Study Guide 12/6
A 2 CLS Tech 12/4
A 3 WRT Paper 12/7
A 4 Study psych 12/6
A 5 Spanish hw 12/5
A 6 Psych Essay- Due 12/9
A 7 Spanish Oral 12/6
B 1 Psych movie/paper 12/6
C 1 Pack!

Because I have such a complicated schedule next week with it seems like never-ending work, after I ranked priorities, I created a study schedule to keep myself on task with everything. It’s so great having a plan and knowing that everything can be finished!! It’s definitely a de-stressor. I included some breaks because it’s not healthy for your brain to continuously do work for hours on end! That’s why going to the gym is such a great way to take a break because your mind takes a break while your heart gets a work out! It also feels great to exert some of that stress onto the machines!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!! I’m sure you will do splendidly on those finals!

P.S. This is the last TECH!! :( I just want to thank my group for doing such a great job blogging! Another thank you to the best TA ever, Janine!!

Ranking Priorites...take TWO!

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween weekend! Last week everyone was swamped with midterms, but luckily I didn't have any! However, I feel like I'm DROWNING in work for next week! I have a WRT 105 paper due Monday and a PSY 205 test on Tuesday! While I have definitely NOT been procrastinating (in fact I've been studying for Psych since the first lecture), I feel like the more work I do, the more work I have, with very little progress being completed. With that in mind, I decided to Rank My Priorities! As you know, lists are my best friend.
I decided to get everything written down by importance and date. As a visual learner, I love looking at what I need to do, so I know what needs to be done first. Ranking Priorities is such a great way to get organized and it's SO easy! First, you write (or type) everything due on a word document. I start with every subject and group them. Then you write down the dates they are due. After I see the due dates, I start switching my list around, so it's in chronological order. After, I see if anything needs to be switched in order of importance, rather than date (depends if you have any big projects). I give everything that NEEDS to be done that day an "A".  "B" means it needs to be done, but not immediately. "C" means it's optional. Since your list is already in order of importance, rank them numerically, just so you can visually see how many of each group you have. Then, you start working!!  I put two A-2s because they go hand in hand since I'm doing my exam experiment on my Psych test.
The List!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this strategy. While making the list can get me anxious because I see everything that needs to be done and I get worried, taking each subject and homework one step at a time makes me feel SO much better. It is such an easy way to stay organized and on top of your homework! Feel free to add extracurricular activities like "laundry" or "go to CVS" on there too!
Good Luck everyone!

Problem Solving: Ranking Priorities!

My list! (Hopefully everything will be crossed off in the near future)

Hey everyone! This week has been so chaotic since I went home for the weekend due to Rosh Hashanah! Because I knew I would be going home and not have too much time to do my work, I PROBLEM SOLVED to figure out everything I needed to do and in what order to do it! I used the technique of RANKING PRIORITES! I can explain this process in terms of L.A.M.E. (remember: learner, action, materials, evaluation). Since I’m a visual learner, making lists allows me to write down and see everything I need to accomplish.  Action: after writing every task down, I labeled them and put them in order of importance. I would give the most significant tasks an A, important tasks a B, and C is for tasks that needed to be done, didn’t have a deadline, but are still in order of value. After each task was completed, I would cross it off the list (my favorite part of the list process). The material was the actual list. Evaluation: I really suggest this technique when you’re overwhelmed with work. It feels so great when every task gets accomplished!

Hope you enjoy this technique!
